What's really crazy is how her younger lover in the beginning is just as old as she was in the film now... crazy shit, time. It's why I get real maudlin watching silent films, because all of the actors are dead.

There is a part of 20th century America that is dying in this film too.

What an existence though. Just hang around, listening to records, eating food, staring at yourself in the mirror, having vapid, utterly pointless conversations in some old dilapidating mansion.

Such a great film, just goes to show that money isn't everything, anons. They were happy even in squalor, and had a strangely symbiotic relationship.
