So, Senator John McCain is really a "IV" instead of a "III" (which is odd and confusing). It was this original McCain that sent his namesake off to the Naval Academy at the turn of the last century.

He had a peculiar occupation, that of a Mississippi plantation owner and sheriff according to McCain's own website.

But here is the kicker, his father was

William Alexander McCain (b. North Carolina, 1812 – d. 1863), Confederate States Army, owned a 2,000-acre plantation in Carroll County, Mississippi and 52 slaves.

The genesis of the modern McCain legacy was from the profits of plantation slavery. That money sent McCain to the University of Mississippi and onto the Naval Academy (and older brother, William Alexander McCain, onto West Point and eventually to hold the rank of general).

Obama’s ancestors on his white mother’s side appear to have been slave owners. William Reitwiesner, an amateur genealogical researcher, has published a history of Obama’s mother’s family and discovered that her ancestors have a distinctly shadowy past.

Reitwiesner traced Obama’s great-great-great-great-grandfather, George Washington Overall, and found that he owned two slaves in Kentucky: a 15-year-old girl and a 25-year-old man. He also found out that Obama’s great-great-great-great-great-grandmother, Mary Duvall, also owned a pair of slaves listed in an 1850 census record. They were a 60-year-old man and a 58-year-old woman. In fact, the Duvalls were a wealthy family whose members were descended from a major landowner, Maureen Duvall, whose estate owned at least 18 slaves in the 17th century.

Wow, that’s a lot of slaves.

Following the logical progression of the liberal anti-history brigade, anything and everything featuring Obama’s name must be removed and scrubbed from our minds, books, and records.

I know, and I agree. But since they are using this kind of reasoning to shame regular people and destroy our history, and it seems to be working... we may as well use their tactics against them. And i dont think there would be a better time to do this than now.
Hell, they even got that Asian dude sportscaster or whatever he is Robert Lee off air or whatever just because his name was the same as General Robert E Lee.

Burwell Boykin’s cause of death is listed as “Killed By Negro.” Boykin’s slaves were so unhappy with their treatment that one rebelled and beat him to death. Anderson figured that Boykin probably deserved it but wished that he could know more about the man who murdered Boykin (aside from the fact that he was hanged without a trial) and what happened to the other 11 people after Boykin’s death.

Details dried up at this point for Gates and his team, though given Anderson Cooper’s love of storytelling, we can’t help but wonder if he’ll keep investigating long after this episode airs.

BUNCE ISLAND, Sierra Leone—Twelve American presidents owned slaves, eight while serving in office, and at least 25 presidents count slave owners among their ancestors. But new historical evidence shows that a direct ancestor of George W. and George H.W. Bush was part of a much more appalling group: Thomas Walker was a notorious slave trader active in the late 18th century along the coast of West Africa.
