You're not wrong, but remember that this is a trend across whole populations, it doesn't mean that there aren't blacks that are intellectually superior to whites, or that you'll never encounter any. It means that you're less likely to encounter some.

These kinds of generalized statistics are useful for non-personal approaches between groups and strangers, but you shouldn't let them stand in the way of individual interactions, where the persons specific traits always matter more than the ones of the group he belongs to.
