The reasons are pretty interesting.

Gen Z'ers were raised by Gen X'ers and were in their prime years (start of puberty) during the 2008 great recession when many probably saw their parents lose their jobs and have to be tight with money. They were also in their prime when the first black president was elected and all of a sudden "white identity" started becoming a thing. Before this point, whites never saw themselves as a group in our country.

Hardship of any kind leads to a stronger generation. Especially with a gen x'er parent telling you life isn't rainbows and roses and you'll be fucked by the world unless you fuck it first. I can't think of a single hardship millennials had to face.

We grew up in the nanny coddled 90s-early 2000s. The recession didn't effect our parents (boomers) because they're the bosses / tenured and have a shitload of money saved having gone to college for $500 a year. And most of us were young enough that we didn't have any debt or mortgage to worry about during the recession.
