Yes, and solar/lunar eclipses happen in roughly 6 month periods. They are not always total eclipses.

The reason is due to the fact that the Moons eccentricity moves up and down relative to the solar plane, otherwise every new moon would be a solar eclipse and every full moon a lunar eclipse. The period of that eccentricity is roughly 6 months. The term describing the alignment is called syzygy.
