if you take a look at the audio from the shooting video you will see that the first 5 shots were from a different caliber from the rest of the shots afterward. the first shots were either 5.56 or 5.45 most likely, which would explain all the fragmentation in scalise.

also the first five shots were extremely well controlled fire, and the rest are chaotic and uncontrolled.
