Just give everyone a notebook. Start everyone off with a set amount of currency, say 1000 units. Every time you want to buy or sell something you and the other partner enter the change of value into your notebook.
This creates a chain of transactions that can be traced and so long as people don't loose too many of the books you can recreate the whole backing system back to the start from other books.

You audit the books every set period of time and then zeroize the system so you don't need a full history of the banking. You can then also inject more capital into the system by agreement if the amount of units is not sufficient for the transaction needs of the people.
