if we are going to a strictly christian or old testament interpretation, all the animals where originally created to be herbivores, and some only became carnivores following the fall of man in the garden. According to that theory, mosquitos would likely have been completely harmless and fed entirely on fruit, as male mosquitoes continue to do today. I'm not saying I support one way or another, just that thats a position some have on it to explain it.

Also, mosquitoes form the basis of much of the food chain, and birds and fish would likely starve if they where to disappear, so they do have a purpose.

You also can not discount the possibility that disease itself serves an ultimate good purpose for humans, in weeding out the weak. Much like how a forest fire burns out the old growth making room for new growth.

You're using humans as the center point for what is defined as good or bad. Mosquitos aren't good or bad for existing, they just exist. The fact that polio exists is its own aside. What is "good" is what ensures its species' future existence.

Anon, there are creatures that have existed that Yahweh did not create. Niggers and other races were here before He created Adam. There are other creatures as well that God did not create but are the result of mixed species. Look up that verse in Genesis again. Does it not say God created all insects that swarm and those that crawl on the earth? Mosquitoes neither swarm nor crawl on the earth. Check it.
