People don't realize how fudged the figures are regarding poverty and homelessness in the UK.

If the charity I work at figures are representative of the rest of the UK (we live in rich, rural area btw) then the UK gov is recording about 10% of the total homeless in their official figures.

The funniest example of the figure fudging I've seen is the council wouldn't count 2 people as homeless (thus were not legally obliged to help them) because they had tents and technically were not sleeping on the street.

Our government takes every step it can to not recognize the problem and even when it does it still makes every attempt not to tackle that problem - you often have to threaten legal action against them to get them to do what they are supposed to do.
