That massive spike would be when they stretched the definition of "Mass Shooting" so loose that random gang violence started being counted. Nobody even has to die for an incident to be called a mass shooting, just three or more people who aren't the shooter being injured.

Humans evolved in closely connected homogenous groups of less than 200 individuals, while constantly facing life-threatening challenges on a daily basis where failure means death. Nowadays we live in immense cities surrounded by crowds of people we don't know, and are faced with often-failed challenges that have very little impact on your life.

This isn't going to slow down. This is only going to get worse.
