Maybe true, but it's also more beneficial to the people beneath the ruling class. A society that teaches love and cooperation is efficient and comfortable. A society that craves conflict is inefficient and will collapse in on itself once it becomes too large. If humanity is to reach its maximum potential, a religion that restricts its warlike tendencies is valuable and preferable to one that engenders constant infighting.

Obviously, this goal isn't achieved yet, but that doesn't undermine the value of the goal.
