To answer your question, I personally don't think it's worth it most of the time, but that answer will vary with each person you ask. I work with some incredible people and have made lifelong friendships, so theres that at least. All that said, my company essentially has jobs in nearly every field imaginable, so if I wanted to I could easily get a new gig since we exclusively hire from within.

In the end, its about truly knowing yourself. You could do it for a few years, wind up loving with it and stay with it. If possible, you could try it and always intentionally take the 'demotion' back. Or you could do what many people at UPS do and use it as a launching point. Just be honest with yourself and what your career ambitions are.

A lot of the problem is that I don't know specifically WHAT to spend my time on. Do I get a wagecuck job working for minimum wage for a year? That's going to set me back another year in another potential career as opposed to just going to college ASAP.

Do I get a degree? If so what in? I have no fucking idea how this works and nobody I know has any intention of helping me, or knows how to answer the questions I have. It's all unhelpful shit like "just do it"

I don't really have one. I hate routines. Right now we're moving for the third time this year to another city in a different state which is why I dropped out of college for the second time. Doesn't make any sense to go to college when the credits won't transfer between states so that's a quarter of a year down the fucking drain.

After that I got a job for about two months 12/hr a day for $12/hr and my routine was wake up, go to work, come home and play video games, go to bed, repeat.

Right now I only have a couple weeks until the move and no job so I basically play video games all day and clean up the house. I do try to help out whenever I can but for some reason I lack the motivation to succeed and I don't get why.

It used to be that I had that motivation, but eventually over time it dwindled down, almost feels like the way old people describe how they used to be back in their youth, except I'm just turning 24.


The real problem I think is that I enjoy wasting my time so much that I will sacrifice everything else to the detriment of that. I want to know how to change what I want out of life

I work because I can make a lot more money that way. When you have a surplus of money and aren't reliant on the state to take care of you, you get to do the things you want to do.

In a couple years I want to relocate out of the city, own a house, own land, finance my own business. It all takes money, and I can't get that kind of money on welfare, so I work.

I'm also just kind of against the idea of being on welfare as a man, but that's probably my upbringing talking.

I ran Linux at home and did open source volunteer stuff, that got me a tech support job for businesses, not consumer level shit, and I just worked away at that until I got where I am.

If you're looking for tips: save money automatically, just have your salary split out before it ever hits your bank account, and jump ship every 2 years. It's the only way you're going to see drastic salary increases in almost all situations.

50-60k a year is a joke. Pick up a trade, or check out larger companies that have warehouses/factories in your area...for example, coca cola jobs doing things like merchandising (basically a bitch sales job) or working in the warehouse/on the assembly line dont require a degree and pay reasonably well, usually with benefits if full time + reasonable routes to "move up"/get raises. for most jobs though, if you aren't willing to 'start something yourself' so to speak (like a business, or have a marketable hard skill you can freelance/consult with), you will eventually need a degree. if you are only 24, you should put in some years at a community college, and then transfer + get your actual degree from a reputable state school.
