Precisely because it's fucking massive the overall heat doesn't change that quickly until the volcano reaches a critical point and eruption becomes inevitable. Volcanos operate on geologic time, which means they get hotter slow as shit. Which means you can make them get cooler slow as shit and you'll achieve homeostasis and be fine.

You don't need to instantly freeze the volcano. You just need to keep it from going critical.

That said if it's already going critical, we're absolutely fucked. I think our only option at that point would be attempt to trigger a smaller eruption to relieve pressure so we don't completely fuck the planet and I'm not sure we have the tech for that yet. We totally have the tech for a 10 km hole straight into lava though. Russians made a 12 km one once just fucking around.
