In Leafistan, at least where I work, we get paid time off in increments proportionate to time spent with the company (in hour-years basically; I have 15k hours and am eligible for 3 weeks paid, next year I will be at 17k hours which will roll me over to 4 weeks paid). Now, if this doesn't upset you, let me let you in on a little secret: this is already accounted for in the budget. It's not about being "dead weight" that the company can afford to shirk off, all of the managers get paid time off all the same. However in prior years where I opted not to take my time off, and to tie this in with my statement about paid time off being already financially accounted for, I also got paid for that. Not just my regular earnings, but additional earnings at the end of the year which would've been paid to me had I taken time off. So, in effect: take time off and get paid regular earnings, or dont take time off and get paid your working salary plus what you would've got if you took that time off anyways.
