Season 1 had her stumble into a conflict with no clear "good side" that she didn't understand, and because of her own stupidity she ended up emboldening an extremist anti-bending group and validating all of their fears by joining in organized raids against non-benders. Season 3 was actually pretty good and it seemed like a major step up from season 2. It does its best to pretend Season 2 didn't happen, beyond misc. plot points.

Season 4 retroactively makes season 3 bad by making some of the supporting characters introduced in season 3 literal monsters who are responsible for everything bad(Suyin) or sympathetic OCs who despite acting in a noble way and trying to salvage a terrible situation, are portrayed by the writers as Hitler/Mao/etc(Kuvira). Surviving characters from earlier series or seasons are flanderized or made evil or stupid, and the series ends by punishing the morally-grey-turned-evil final boss, instead of the characters who are directly responsible for all of this terrible shit blighting their world and get away scott free because they're the writers' self inserts(Suyin/Opal/All of the DEMONIC AND MISANTHROPIC spirits)

The message of the show is that anyone who recognizes that society is broken/flawed must be evil and destroyed, and that you can't critically try to make things better without being Anakin Skywalker'd into the villain role. Only idiotic centrists who never consider the consequences of their own actions get happy endings
