If there isn't such thing as a white culture, then there isn't a thing as "german culture", "irish culture", "italian culture", because there are variations and smaller cultures within them as well. It is just a broad way to categorize them.
Same applies for "european culture", "asian culture", "black culture", "latino culture"... They are just broader categorizations. You can still classify them, though.

Even when that's true (which isn't always the case), many US whites have ancestry from several european countries . So it is only natural they will they will have the feeling of "european identity" instead of a specific country.
