I'd say removal of Confederate monuments marks a turning point in American history. If you look at the countries that destroyed historical monuments in their squares and streets over the 20th century, those were all former colonies that got rid of the white imperial rule. India, Zimbabwe, South Africa and so on. Bolsheviks removed monuments to Romanovs immediately after seizing power. Singapore never removed statues of Stamford Raffles, and now Singapore is a prosperous first world nation. One can argue that America's current wave of war of statues symbolizes it's imminent descent into thirld world status.
