Feature creep is causing bloat while still have fatal flaws at the core of the game.

Balancing for multiplayer makes no sense given how 99.9% of the player base plays the game

Inner Africa and Brazil should not be available to conquer and colonize. In fact colonization as a whole is done really poorly compared to EU3 and it's not a fixable problem.

Still have a couple hundred hours in it. But it really is fatally flawed.

Holy AND Roman, and don't forget it's hardly an Empire. Take the decision to form the Kingdom of God, it wipes the bonuses from the Curia for every catholic ruler, weakening the big catholics countries who tries to get them (namely FRA, SPA, HAB and ENG if protestantism didn't fire there). You will need to get to MOR as a staple for the New World, and to channel back the trade. Taking Granada can be quite the gambit, and it will weaken SPA, but you'll be a target.

Still, it's an interesting game.

basically, in eu3 trade involves you spamming merchants to centers of trade constantly in order to make money off them, its tedious as fuck. eu4 has a much better trade system where you basically station a permanent merchant in a center of trade and how much money you can make off them is determined by your naval power in the area, your global trade power, how many provinces you own in the area, etc. you can also use that merchant to send wealth to another center of trade you have more power in to be able to make more money while denying the money to your rivals

if you're just starting eu3 you may not have the nostalgia for it like i do, so you may in fact enjoy eu4 better

It's not a guarantee, I've seen AI RUS making comebacks from worse situations than that, they are resilient like hell.

Granted, you did took India, which lessen the benefits, but they can heavily profit from South America's trade. Imho, your choice is not optimal, but I can be quite the maniac with trade.

Either you play conservatively by building your powerbase in Italy (quite a pain for you until the Shadow Kingdom happen, and if you're lucky NAP will break the PU with ARA before the Iberian Wedding) or you can go for Tunis for a very nice foothold in Africa, if you can go past the garantee usually laid by TUR. Your opening move will be quite something to pull, whatever you want to do.

Well it's not just that.
By the 18th century, Mali was between Otto and Dutch East Africa.
It was hard for me to conquer them, because the moment I declared war on them, the netherlands also declared war on them and ocucpied every province (didn't occupy any forts), which ruined the peace deal.

All my armies were in India, fighting Ming and their tributaries. If I had another 100 years, I gladly would have relocated them to fight Africa.
Also, I would have conquered all of Kilwa, too. Ming however, DOW'ed on me with 2 of their tributaries, and I figured it'd be best (for the over extension) just to take those coastline provinces instead of full annexing it since the war with Ming, I was going to eat their 2 tributaries they called in.
Again, as I said, I was going for a few achievements, next time I won't be so limited.
In this run, I got

"Dar-el Islam"
"Trade Hegemon"
"Master of India"
That one involving owning 10 gold producing provinces

Started as Brandenburg with 5 provinces in 1066, only nation left that isn't my colony is Russia cause I cba to finish them off. The game is fundamentally broken because you cannot form coalitions simply due to size and previous expansion of your neighbors like you can in real life, see: NATO. Also reforming Rome was a mistake, way way worse generals than Brandenburg.

Yeah it's got a number of different bonuses that you can spend the religious points on, iirc one was like +10% national manpower modifier and one was +10% land force limit, totally worth converting. And yes bonuses for each religion stays throughout the whole game as long as you don't go secular.

Yeah, and also Protestant is better for the church aspects. In my experience, the only time the Papal influence becomes a thing is when I was playing as the Commonwealth. The papal influence I got from converting Orthodox and Muslim provinces was more than enough to keep me at +3 stab without me ever using admin points.
