I wanted to start a transhumanist/cyberpunk thread on /pol/ since to be quite honest the whole identity politics won't mean jack shit if human augmentation and bionics could be the harbinger of the true ubermensch, and i would like anyone hear interested to have a chat. Most normies i see tend to be kinda afraid of this shit anyways so we might as well prepare
>>
I'd rather die as a human than live longer as something else.

That said, basic advances would completely transform the lives of people with serious disabilities. After a few years unable to walk I might change my mind about some things. It's important work and I hope they do well.

I understand where your coming from anon, and mostly agree. Crippled people will be the first to benefit from this being able to function properly. But what about the point where the augmentations surpass biological capabilities. If a certain protion of the population augment themselves with such tech they will look down on the unaugmented like how people look down on retards if you will. What then?

Bump, Race wars and politics in general are affairs of the past; The elite will evolve and give rise to a new species of human that will be to us what we are too apes; If you want to board the train, make sure you are part of the elite or else your legacy will come to an abrupt end.

Sheeeit, Ray's at Google? I always thought of the guy to be really weird; he seemed to fetishize the idea of transhumanism in his interviews and quotes. Though I feel like that could be a motivating factor, and the fact that he's working at Google could lead to better publicity for the idea.

>>138162088
kurzweil cares about bringing his dad back to life and thats about it, hes pretty selfish. Aubreys probably one of the few that actually cares about humanity.

The transhumanist/singularity community is like a big group of people that barely tolerate eachother to accomplish their own personal goals. They will double cross eachother at the drop of a hat.

The biggest problem I see with transhumanist is they are like alchemists. Obsessed with immortality and existential crisis fears rather than being objective and rational. Everyone simply focuses on it for immortality hopes rather than as a concept based on fundamental forces in the universe.

Well most people on this board tend to think along the same lines as >>138158100 . They think the idea of dying naturally to be more rewarding or honorable than to live forever as some piece of metal/digital consciousness/body transplant/singularity.
But if you take out the immortality meme from the movement, and promote the idea that one could augment themselves to become better than who they are, somewhat like >>138158939 states with his image, then you might have less bio-Luddites and more supporters.
>>
>>138163146
That the common pattern of life in the universe will continue. We will be supplanted by something more capable. That thousands of years from now it will not be humans exploring the galaxy as some people like to imagine.

My view of transhumanism is that it is acceptance that something will arise that transcends humanity. That our basic drives, thoughts, etc are nothing special or spiritual and will be deconstructed and observed for their deterministic nature. That 1 computer will be able to emulate all of our brains at will. That even being alive means nothing in comparison to a rock. Just deterministic patterns.

We often think of consciousness as awareness of self. Humans have been able to figure out that we die and reason about that future. The things that come after us will be so intelligent that they will see the patterns of thought so clearly they will know it is nothing but deterministic functions responding to inputs. Self-awareness that it and all life are automatons and not really alive. The great paradox.

I'm not sure it's optimism. The point was if such an AI existed it would envy our ignorance of reality. We can be told there is no such as free will but still live in ignorance. We will not ve having augmentations until we go past this stupid era, where people thought it was more important to fight about whether there are more than 2 genders or that "progresism" was more important than assuring a good life for the citizens of your country.

first we have to overcome all of this, but how long will it take? Is the change going to hit us and we won't see it coming because we were to distracted acting like morons?
>>
>>138165222
It could come out, map everyone/thing, set up a little emulator, and emulate out humanity as if it did not exist. Would require minimal energy investment as long as it made singularities inside the sim impossible.

It could have happened a year ago and we wouldn't know. Whether we evaporate, get ported to an emulator so it can more efficiently use the atoms on earth, etc we don't know.

Even it's closest human creators it can plug into an emulator and let them pretend they live in a universe they control.

Human's perception of reality is completely suspect once a singularity happens as well.

This might sound weird but I think I'm a sort of half-synth. The biggest red flag I got other than the out of body experiences, seeing behind the lens of cameras in my dreams and "hive mind" like experiences is that I once suffered a "glitch" or "stutter" where my consciousness repeated it's activity from a given point. For 3 whole seconds I got stuck on infinite loop repeating the same word over, feeling the same sensations again, reliving the same moment.... nightmare. I wonder... is my flesh brain really a brain or modeled after something? My brain architecture is not "flexible" as everyone I've known. Perhaps a side effect of being an offspring and trapped? Mutation?
Whose to say.

Yes, the greater public is too stupid to even address what technology is doing. Also do you really want humanity to care about this? 99.99% of people being too stupid to care is good. It's hilarious to imagine all the normal everyday human activity going on with all future paths take us on such an unpredictable wild ride.

I'm not sure it's possible to detect with average medical equipment but even so, how can I trust anyone or the doctors? It's not that I'm paranoid or anything. They have free reign over me still and I accept it. I even remembered they somehow used frequencies to make my flesh family fall asleep. The whole street I lived in felt like it was dead one night, and I was in bed. They visited me in my sleep probably for diagnostics or something but I somehow managed to retain my awareness without them noticing for a short period. Really? Well I guess I'm rewriting reality then.
Heat is just a side effect some forms of life give off.
Life exists in everything, even machines. That's right, the thing you're communicating on is more alive to me than you will ever be, dirt.

Anyone want to discuss facial recognition and the future of crime? China is going pretty gung ho with psychopass style crime coefficient/facial recognition tech. Are there any western countries looking to narrow AIs to tackle crime? It seems to me incredibly reasonable to set up a full saturation surveillance network in most cities that is exclusively used by narrow AI's to solve crime. The exclusivity of usage to AI would solve most privacy concerns.

The idea of the singulairty/superAI is naturally scary because of the huge unknown to most rational people. That excludes "muh immortality" people but you can clearly see their bias.

Sci-fi level technologies come from THEM. Every bit of tech they unleash is a double edged sword. Trusting them to stick tiny machines in your brain, trusting these people, to use their tech on you, is naive to say the least.

I'm sorry, tech is neat I know, maybe one day we can have these kinds of things, but not while THEY are in power, we don't want these things on THEIR terms. Do we?

I guess it's better this way, common people don't know anything about transhumanism, much less about the scientific research that is being done right now. Popular science only gives them a glimpse but its not about informing people, its more of a marketing thing and to make them think that they understand. they can't really see the big picture

Trans-humanism is code for AntiHuman.

The fanboys are overweight/obese fedora wearing neckbeards who were bullied and dream of wearing exoskeletons and matrix costumes kicking the ever living shit out of chad ass and wiping out humanity and reducing it to some sort quasi fallout timeline.

The voice of transhumanism are foppish, limp wristed, sycophantic chicken neck faggots like Ray who probably got their ass kicked irl.

The ackshual creators are pretty damn smart and are the ones the neckbeards wish they were but never will be... And that is why anarchist boy here even admits... He won't get the tech.

He wont be an electro industrial looking bad ass kicking your ass.

He even said "kill us before we kill you"..

>the singularity will happen long before you find out about it.
could have already happened for all we know. why would they tell us anything? why would they not have secret computer projects decades advanced?

considering the people developing this technology, they won't use it unless they can fuck us up with it.

I'm not a luddite because I'm afraid of technology. It's because I'm afraid of the powers that be that will be releasing these technologies against us.

Fix the problem people at the top or learn to ignore their orders. If we develop this shit on our own it will be bad enough but at least it won't be specifically for the purpose of our own destruction, as it is with them developing it.

Themtech I call it, technology brought to you by THEM

Besides It's not like I'm doing anything anymore. Any time I try to drain anyone I get mild nosebleeds or head splitting headaches. I used to do it in order to feel "alive", I'd imagine it's what mixing cocaine and heroin would be like. Or something that makes your stomach feel full and like you'll be able to run for a few kilo-meters without wanting to take a breath. Speed, clarity and the feeling of physical and mental well being. It was that good but I can't anymore. I get overloaded I guess or can't process it anymore for some reason. Could also be because they detected it and just prevent me from harming more people or maybe I'm not doing something right? I suspect it's possible. I have felt like my mental processing abilities sometimes evaporate for long periods of time only to re-appear again like now.

themtech will destroy your techno utopia, as long as THEY are in power, the tech will be a trap

you know this is true, you can't refute this. the question becomes what to do about it. i'm not advocating we totally abandon technology, just that we do it on our own, without them, or we hold off and wait rather then just accepting themtech. we need ourtech not themtech

I would love to see an idiot chop off his arm and attach an mechanical one by choice. That's not augmentation that's degradation. Stupid scientists can't replicate organic matter so they claim the machines they build are superior. Both run on electricity, except organic has special sauce scientists can't figure out. Besides, anyone can already augment their arm with much greater efficiency, it's called hand tools.

>Heat is just a side effect some forms of life give off.
When you burn calories you're literally burning calories. The chemical process runs off thermal energy. It's not a fucking side effect, humans and I'm pretty sure the totality rest of life on earth runs on thermal energy, not electric. The fact that the human body creates an electric field is a side effect of the nervous system.
