That does not help... Islam does not have a church, if some muslim leader changes islam then he falls out of the fold and people are not going to follow that guy. Islamic Scholars have no power over the religion due to the tradition of always showing evidence for every claim and answering every counter claim. So it needs to be logically coherent which is not possible when you change things.

Some people have tried to avoid it by rejecting hadith, but they are not considered muslim by the Sunni or Shia so it would be the same as if a Christian or Atheist made a claim about islam. Muslims won't just drop what they are doing and follow that instead.
