If you are proud of something, but have no tangible connection, then its a misplaced pride.

You maybe confusing the word "Pride" for the word "Admiration" or maybe "veneration" .

No one begrudges you your admiration of your ancestors, in fact if they did something truly important others likely admire them in kind.

I guess pride might not be the right word then. I remember as a child being amazed I was lucky enough to be born English, of all the billions of none English I was lucky enough and looking back also to be born in a time when my area was 100% English.

What I resent as an Englishman is that now I am either expected to shit upon my ethnicity or denounce it in favour of some "global citizen" platitude. If I espouse any love for my heritage (note I specifically didn't say pride) I am labeled an ignorant racist, yet if I was an Indian they would organise week long festivals to help me celebrate.

I cant speak for England, but in the united states we have all sorts of festivals for literally every group.

I went to this one http://www.polcafestival.com/ this year because friends parents are from there and I always take an excuse to drink and eat weird food.

Traditions past down from parent to child are a way of keeping that connection between modern person and ancient ancestor strong and making admiration bordering on pride less cringy.

This partially explains why such behavior is more acceptable in certain minority groups.

A native american who for 12 generations speaks the nearly dead language, lives on the same land, and practices the same riturals that his ancestors did is clearly a retard disconnected from reality.

Even taking pride in the accomplishments of your own child can be considered cringe. Think of those moms you see with honor student bumper-stickers. They tread a line between tasteless and normal, but they are always boasting.

However on the flip side having been a sucessful parent is something to be proud of when you son becomes a good man.

But its all about the definition of words. You say you feel honored. But you describe being admired or at least your accomplishments/creations being admired.

It's not outright bans that currently present problems but more like populations so drenched in media tropes, so isolated in neatly labeled bubbles and so disconnected from each other that what would have been unthinkable a few years ago is commonplace and the future is full of uncertainty.
Some people feel instinctively that they need to take a stand, they might not have a watertight platform and they might not use perfect descriptors for their movements (others may even label them with detrimental ones) but they understand that they need to stand up and they might get unknowingly co-opted by factions which don't have their best interests at heart. My point being if you live your life with the single goal of avoiding anything considered "cringy" then you might well end up being replaced by Muslims because you we told standing up for yourself was a "major cringefest".
