Nikon Monarch is pretty good for the money, but not much below that level. Meopta good but pricey. Zeiss Terra is their best value scope. Quigley-Ford out of Canada will make a custom scope for your rifle/load for under $1K. Go 50mm objective, if you can....bigger FOV, better light gathering. Bannon = Bushnell at this point.

why are they so cheap? a 4-12x is $170. I have a Nikon 4x fixed that cost more than that for my AR.

I've got a budget of like $600. I want quality optics. No huge distractions for me.
