A lot of extinction today does come from illegal poaching, for example rhino horns for Chinese "medicine." So it's not fair to lump that in with legit businesses like the poultry industry. However, even though I myself am a libertarian, I urge caution on this issue. I believe a lot of species went instinct because ppl wanted to make money quickly without thinking of in the long term. If a species went extinct, they just moved on to another one, easier than trying to breed more for making rich ladies' hats, etc. A lot of beautiful birds are gone now.
