He helped bring to mass public attention the deep infiltration of communist spies into the US government.

McCarthy by no means uncovered anything himself, rather he stood up and had the balls to say what no one else would.

When the original Soviet defectors went to the FDR administration exposing the deep tentacles of the KGB spy rings that had wormed their way up to FDR's personal advisors, the FDR administration did nothing. FDR was either completely oblivious or delusional. He left it to Truman to clean up, but he didn't do anything either. Eisenhower was slightly more competent but not by much.

After the USSR fell it was confirmed by the Venonan files that the US was in fact crawling with Soviet spies. The Communist party itself was used as a major apparatus to recruit new spies and members.

Thanks to spying hte USSR stole the plans for the T-34 tank from the US and eventually the plans AND ASSETS for the construction of nuclear weapons

Here's the long story short about McCarthy for any anti McCarthy faggots

Ultimately that's how they took down McCarthy, he got conned by the CIA because they were butthurt about him exposing their lack of action on removing Soviet spyrings.

Why did the CIA refuse to remove communist spyrings? Well the CIA had its roots in WW2 and they were major allies of the USSR and PRC during WW2. Most of their spying infrastructure was based on these communist spies, so they couldn't just "kick them out".
