It's not a paradox because "tolerance" never meant |tolerance|. It's used in juxtaposition of the intolerance of supremacy. What is actually being promoted is the equality of basic rights, so you can see where supremacy ("rights are for me and obligations are for you") can be fought against without contradiction.
