Well for now most of Athens metro area is fine. But as for the city of Athens the problem is uncontrollable.
Whole streets are occupied by their shops and they do whatever they want, they haven't assimilated to the very least, many of them don't even speak Greek at all.
They are protected by several organizations (for example KEERFA) both Greek and foreign ones that are in Greece. They do all the kinds of illegal activities and the government is building a mosque for them.

I went to Athens a few years ago during the height of the financial crisis, I saw the homelessness and the riots and protests. some old guy shot him self after pinning a note on a tree at St Agmas square because his pension was slashed and he didn't want to face the indignity of homelessness. since visiting that country i became a firm Anti-EU advocate, it's government is basically a puppet state for Germany. And quite frankly it pisses me off when millennials are so pro and EU they don't even know or care to know about what actually goes on in other EU states. How ever generally the people were nice and the foods good!

And to some extent I think Greek posters "hating" on Albanians are affected by the western European notion for Albanians which sees them as the generalized Muslim nation, thereby deserving hated. Or perhaps Athenians who associate them with criminals that dwell in Athens. Since I live in rural Greece, I mostly see field workers, and I've come to realize that they are all right people.

Albania as a country is certainly a shithole, but in my opinion that's a result of communism, and a bad follow-up to communism (which continues to this day). Albanian criminals are the type of people you would see in the post-Soviet Russia, for example, not the Islamic terrorist type. But the common folk are fine, and quite similar to us in many ways. That's one statement that can extent to a number of Balkanic state, naturally.

The problem with Albania is that it was irrelevant or non-existent during the nationalistic years of Europe and never had the chance to define itself as a modern nation. Couple that with the loss of all Medieval identity due to conversion of the vast majority to Islam and thereby a false association with Turkey rather than the Roman Empire, and no one should be surprised that you chose to enter the eastern bloc.

If Italy hadn't picked the wrong side in WW2 and still helped you for whatever reason during that time without provocating and getting BTFO'd by us, perhaps you would have progressed by now. But I can't see things improve if people like Edi Rama still rule the country and still chose to pick false allies like Erdogan.

I'm going to move to English now to better convey some subtleties. It's interesting actually that Greeks have a notion that Greek Americans have become disconnected, because Greeks here are very conservative and feel as though Greeks in Greece have lost their religion and become hedonistic.

Wih every generation here though we do stray farther from the original culture. More Greeks will marry foreigners and fewer will take their children to church and Greek school but I believe the majority will still learn some basic amount of Greek and the majority will always be orthodox Christians. I think we have two or three more generations in us. We are two million here, there will be a cultural connection and a linguistic and religious one for a long time, but soon it won't be one that Greece can benefit from in any way.
