Trump defending the rally saying some of them are "very fine people" is not going to play well.
Look at this fucking poster. There is no way you can spin this into saying its just another typical right wing rally. It's clear as day what the rally was about and who it was intended for.
Trump fucked up by defending this rally. He probably thought it was just another typical right wing event like in Berkeley. But that wasn't the case.

I had no issues with him saying both sides are to blame. He could have gone into more detail and elaborate a bit. Which would have helped in making his case.
The issue is that he tried to defend some of the people at the rally by saying "some of them are very fine people". This is a critical mistake.

That's not the point. Look at the damn poster. It has Nazi Eagles and Confederate flags. The layout itself is mirroring Nazi propaganda posters. For all intents and purposes, this was an Alt Right rally. Trump made a huge mistake defending "some people" at this rally. This is not a hill worth dying on.
Not to mention David Duke and Richard Spencer on twitter celebrating the fact that Trump didn't denounce White Supremacist or at least not in any genuine way, will only serve to hurt his image. Fucking idiots. The least they could do is pretend that they are mad at Trump's denouncement but they are too stupid to even do that.
