I don't really see anyone complaining here about preserving history when East-European anti-communist nationalists tear down Lenin statues.

Besides, fascists are closer to Daesh's variety of Islamic fundamentalism. If you just look at their propaganda, their rhetoric is more reminiscent of western fundamentalism than leftist anti-imperialism.

Nationalist-oriented Politically Correct liberal-conservatives might want to rewrite history to wash its hands of modern misdoings to legitimize the current system. One example would be a liberal apologist saying the American system and its ideological extension isn't inherently imperialist because his white guilt has washed away its existence!

Nationalists are more likely to rewrite history given the way they reconstruct pre-modern historical events into national narratives (given that nationhood is a product of modern society). See: all the neo-nazi DEUS VULT crusader LARPers.
