It's funny how badly these people do not understand memetics. Their whole movement is based on robotic chanting of what they DON'T want.

But, memes work a little counterintuitively. You know how when you're driving, you shouldn't stare at the thing you want to avoid, because you'll veer right into it? It works the same way with memes...

Your subconscious (and that of everyone else) doesn't distinguish between a positive and negative. That only happens in a small part of your conscious mind.

This is what the new agers are getting at with "The Secret". Most of that is feel-good nonsense, but there's a sliver of truth to it. If you're always focused on, say, "No more debt, gotta get out of debt" - you develop a mindset centered around - debt. The key is to focus on what you want (more money), and not what you don't want.

So, these people will meme into existence for you, whatever it is that they don't want. By chanting "We are not alt-left" over and over, all their subconscious hears is "alt-left alt-left alt-left".

If they didn't want to be the alt-left, they would NEVER use the term. It would be ignored. Hell, Trump only said it once - why are they the ones repeating it a million times?
