Police are begin put into a pretty hard spot right now. I think they did mostly the proper thing to do in Fergerson which was not to flood the street with riot cops and crush the people under a state sponsored iron boot, even if they were being a bunch of fuckheads.

I don't want to see university students shot by the police like they were in the 60's.

My view of the average policeman is not very high, but first yes they do a very fucking important job. But they are about as smart as a box of bricks, and giving them the power of the state to crush dissent is mostly improper. Also asking them to stand in the middle of a riot with everybody pissed and for them not shoot anybody is asking a whole lot.

It was not too much to ask though that protestors and counter protestors be kept apart though, imho. In general though, asking the police to take sides in a civil conflict like we are wandering into is asking far, far too much of them. They will have enough to do picking up the pieces and keeping the hoodlums from exploiting the situation.
