No way should the events in Virginia and North Carolina have happened in the first place, in fact two police officers have died! If the vast majority of the people in NC wanted the statues moved, they should have gone through the correct channels. But for them to tear down these statues, and for the government to stand by and allow it, shows that the government has lost control. Hopefully there will be a wake-up call.

Slaves were essential to the economy ever since they were brought over in 1619, no one can deny that slaves were the driving force in southern economy since then up until the war.

You guys always say "they only went to war was because they seceded" but why did they secede? Because of all the Tariff acts and legislations regarding slavery. These slave owners were making bank off slave labor but the taxes would have them give more to the government and they didn't want that.

Did you know that slave labor on cotton alone accounted for over 50% of the $66 billion dollars made in domestic trades in 1825 alone? And now the state wants some of that money? That's awful right?

Well maybe look at the time period. The 1828 tariff itself had no choice but to tax imported goods, you know what goods that meant for the south, since the British/Europe could offer better goods at lower prices and Americans couldn't match those prices. Imagine these days if another country could offer goods for cheaper and America couldn't compete with their prices, china for exa- oh wait that's how it is. Even then there were compromise Tariffs enacted after that because the threat of secession was used so much in their rhetoric.

Slavery was simply the main reason for secession, among other cultural/economic differences, and that's where it ends. The express reason and purpose for the Civil War was reunification. This is the kind of thing that Lincoln talks about. - If your case were true, the North would've freed all slaves immediately, and Lincoln would've immediately proclaimed emancipation for all slaves. But he didn't, not until the end in opportunity, because it wasn't the reason for the war. The reason was to bring the two sides back together, somehow.
