The real problem is the cops. The cops will do whatever the state tells them to do, as long as the state keeps the paychecks coming. A small handful may resist orders but most will play along.

Then you have the national guard. They will also play along as long as they're paid.

This is why the right would not be able to engage in open street warfare. Regardless of the number of guns or people the right has, state and federal forces have vast amounts of resources at their disposal. The right would need to engage in asymmetrical warfare. Guerrilla tactics would be necessary. Think of groups like Hezbollah.

It won't be until economic collapse is underway that large amounts of LEO and military would defect or at least abandon their posts, and that could take quite a while. Until then, refrain from open urban warfare. IEDs, roadside bombs, car bombs, small teams performing ambushes, etc, would be the most common tactics the right would make use of.

id say the chances were pretty high, given that certain events occur. 1) If trump somehow sinks lower than he already has (which i think is impossible) it becomes a matter of when antifa decides to get really violent. 2) if trump is impeached then war is imminent. 3) if the military refuses to follow orders from trump then the war will begin inside the branches of military between those who are loyal to trump and those who rebel.

America is among the most well-fed countries in the world. We have a major surplus of food and as long as that continues, most will be content. Even in a down-economy (which we are also not in the middle of), people will still be content.

Next, literally all politicians on both sides of the aisle are not condoning any sort of violence. This is a far-cry from the environment of 1850's America, when there would be regular diatribes to take up arms. I mean, fuck, most of you probably know the story of the caning of Massachusetts Senator Charles Sumner in 1856 by Representative Preston Brooks of South Carolina. Can you imagine Paul Ryan beating Pelosi on the House floor? Of course not.

Finally, and MOST IMPORTANTLY, America has an extensive powergrid and a very lazy population with little incentive to travel outside of the walls of their own home to "protest injustice." Why show up to a protest or take up arms when you can just use a hashtag to express your frustration? No, as long as the masses are pacified by television and the internet, most will be content with their lot. I don't know how many people were protesting at Charlottesville, but I can't imagine it was more than 10,000 in total, on both sides. The other 99.99999999999% of the populace simply don't care enough to take up arms.

Tl;dr: Things have to get a lot worse before a second Civil War is possible and that's not happening anytime in the next decade. I would love to bash lefties as much as the next guy, but this is yet another /pol/ wet dream.

Heres how it would go:
1/3rd would be openly opposed to the govt and join whatever rebellion occurred.

Another 1/3rd would have no real strong opinions, theyd either desert, become sabotuers, play both sides for profit, etc etc. Most will lick the boot and keep on maintaining thier own status quo. This group will get the living shit purged out of it by the following group.

Most Americans would abstain from fighting. Leaving probably about 10% or so on each side (like in revolutionary war).

Basically it would be slightly more organized and somewhat larger scale violence than we see with street gangs. But aside from select locales likely would not interrupt daily life too much. People won't be willing to walk away from their paycheck to go fight a civil war.

This would probably start in related events such as these past few days, a riot or "protest" and someone shoots someone, and guns go blazing. Now you have a potential bloodbath. Here comes the national guard, and most of the shooters would probably be gone by then.

Then depending on who was killed, certain major cities may replicate the "protest" causing more riots and damage to cities. Soon a lot of cities may be shut down, and crime running rampart due to lack of Police presence.

In fact, most of us would be at home, guarding our families and properties. Only certain right wing or left wing groups will use guerrilla warfare and attack the government or infrastructure, and that's if marital law has been declared or some sort of government abuse.

This isn't the 1860's. The north won because of it's industrial base and logistics. As far as I can tell democrat policies have caused a reversal of that. Years of allowing the factory jobs up north to be outsourced. Many of the companies moving back have set up shop in states of the southeast because of the economic incentives placed by conservative government whereas northern states have chosen to focus on free shit, regulation, and taxing the shit out of everything. I won't even go into the insane amount of military bases located in the former "CSA". Think about this more movies are made in the southeast than in fucking hollywood now. You wouldn't even be able to feed your resistance let alone arm them when shit ramped up.
