Taking down confederate statues is fairly easy for a state or city to do (financially speaking). To remove a carving that large? That would take significantly more time and money.

My family moved to GA in 1990 from Michigan. Back then the state flag had the battle flag on it. I remember my family visited that park one summer...we were the only black people there.

It was/is a beautiful park. I know that churches hold "sunrise service" on top of the mountain on Easter (I think).

Personally, I didn't like the light show. But I was/am biased. I can't see the state of GA voting to remove the carving. And even if they did...what would happen to the mountain. Forget the politics of the carving, it takes away from the beauty of the park. And if they did remove it...wouldn't it look even worse?

I'm curious to see what happens over the next few years. I just don't see anyone dishing out money to remove it.
