I work at a day center for adults with disabilities. Truly some of the nicest, most pure spirited people on the planet. If you can, volunteer at your local group home. It's pretty life changing.

The decision to care for a child with a disability is daunting, so I don't fault anyone for choosing abortion, but people with down syndrome are reliably generous and friendly.

my mom is a social worker, and works with down's people all the time. they're pretty dumb in general, but always so goddamn happy and positive. they seem to be pretty emotional and they love hugs.

that said it's a major disability, especially considering low fertility rate, and it's a major handicap to be dealt from birth.
