I disagree, I've studied this for years and years. I'm a Mason but I hardly participate any longer, it's been disappointing to see how many "brothers" are mere social climbers, and I've watched the 'kill whitey' types in Prince Hall Masonry infiltrate the formerly white lodges in the large cities in my area.

I suppose it was always this way, I was mainly in it because I wanted to research the occult and Christian Mysteries with like minded people. Very few Masons crack a book these days, even the so-called enlightened like bread and circuses more than meat for the soul.

You're not wrong, but the target is a bit blurry. As in, our two degree system (pre-1740s) was closer to the Ark Mariner degree. Mostly. And that's only because the first degree of that system (EA) was introduced to make up for speculative members not having apprenticed as actual stonemasons. So really, it was a one degree system, with an introduction. Then you're right, later on, a third degree was added, and the entire system changed. Debate is still out over the Board of Installed Masters, if that originates in the pre-3rd system, or with it as a way of distinguishing actual Masters.
