It wasn't "independence" it was colonization. You were Japan's colony and Japan was defeated, so you got colonized by Japan's conqueror. Then your country was divvied up between two competing spheres of influence.

Don't try to compare something like that to a patriotic holiday like the American Independence Day. Call it "American colonization day" instead.
