A can of thermite is useless. Mix 205g of thermite with 87g barium nitrate, 6g sulfur, and 1g binding agent. This gives you something you can mold, it burns hotter, and is a little easier to set off thanks to the sulfur. If you can't get it to work, mix 20g of sulfur to 10g aluminum and 10g of the stuff sparklers are made with, then mold that around a magnesium wire and use pressure to create a plug you can mold the thermate around.
