Homosexuality is sexual deviancy, I cannot sanction it, but part of the reason it's so reviled has to do with religion and part of me wonders if no one cared enough to discriminate against fags in the first place then there may have never been the grounds for this whole awful identitarian movement that's been spawned as a result.

Yeah. It's modern iteration focuses less on pitting economic classes against each other and doubles down on pitting social classes against each other for the same ends. The rich vs. poor schtick didn't take off like it did in the east due to the characteristics of American capitalism, but American freedom and value for individuality was seen as a weakness ripe for exploitation.
