These weren't protesters. This was an AntiFa combat unit. AntiFa is a paramilitary terrorist organization opposed to freedom of speech and the right to peaceably assemble. They work in groups of mixed armed/unarmed members so they can hide the fact that they're an armed force working together for a common end.

AntiFa was in Charlottesville to attack a peaceful protest and brutalize its attendants to send a message to Americans: you don't have freedom of speech or the right to peaceably assemble unless you have AntiFa's approval.

James Alex Fields was a peaceful protester at a lawful rally which had a permit to be held. He was attempting to go home from the rally after its permit was pulled and the attendees were ordered to leave by police.

Heather Heiffer was part of an AntiFa unit tasked with preventing the orderly dispersal of the protesters and brutalizing them on their way home, to make examples of them so other Americans would be afraid to exercise their right to free speech. She was blocking the road so her armed comrades could attack any stopped cars they identified as containing rally attendees, in full knowledge and acceptance that she might be participating in a murder.

When Fields's car was surrounded and attacked, he fled in the only way AntiFa's tactics allowed: through the blockade.

It was a reasonable act of self-defense against a coordinated attack by a paramilitary combat unit.

Where exactly is your source for the mob violence and bats? Also where is your source that they were going to smash his windows and murder him? I watched the only video I could find on it and there was no insinuation for anything other than that they were changing at the stopped cars. And considering how fast he was going he was either not stuck in a dead stop which would give him no reason to be in the panic mode to slam into the two cars in front of him or he was far enough away that his panic should have worn off and he should have realized he was going to hit the cars and harm people and stopped. All acts of this common design were the probable consequences of those intended by each antifa, so each antifa is individually liable for the crimes of the other parties in their criminal combination.

Justifications and defenses

Provocation can be a defense to criminal liability. The passion and fear excited by the antifas riot, unlawful assembly, and mob assault in any reasonable observer would tend to cause a final act such as fearfully using a car as a weapon to escape the provocation.

The apparent danger in that moment is great and imminent, and to protect one's life and safety it was justifiable to use a greater degree of violence and even to kill the rioters.

In the United States, an arrestee is presumed innocent until proven guilty by due process of law.

Also. Looking at the actual distances between the car and the curb compared against the one man's shoe (Based on the average shoe size for men, size 10) I can deduce that the car was approx 7.5 feet away from the stop sign pole.

Its done either to accelerate very quickly(eg racing someone at a stop light) or to get out of snow without wearing out the brake band thingy in the transmission or bursting a CV joint that can happen when shifting from neutral into drive while revving.


You don't do that when you're driving since there's no benefit to be had.
