And to be honest there's a lot about what Lenin espoused that I disagree with, but there are other aspects of his political thought I'm sympathetic to. What I will say is that I think Lenin was the revolutionary who believed in the righteousness of his cause, Stalin I consider the dictator who cared more about power than he did about his people.

I was born in Washington proper and used to live on Capitol Hill in Seattle for awhile. I only really visited the statue proper around maybe 3 times, but I remember I saw cops parked nearby once and I saw cops drinking milkshakes at the small tables next to Lenin another time.

To be honest... the statue doesn't bother me. Lenin is an important historical figure... walking past it may remind you of the Cold War or the Bolshevik revolution or conger up something in your mind.

That is what it's supposed to do. Its a memorial, it hopefully triggers historical memory.

Some people say it's a 'celebration' of that person, perhaps... but I'm not sure.

Beyond all that it's a work of art that some sculpture has invested their time and talent into and I honestly just think they make a park or cityscape really attractive.

I don't think this is the case, and instead suspect that special interest groups are creating furor where none need to exist. Either for political or financial ends, organizations like the NRA for example I suspect are playing a cynical game of racial identity politics to try and get more people to buy guns. While politicians that can get people to vote along racial lines have an easier time to distract their base when their history is void of any political achievement that benefits their community.
