And if there is no moral obligation to help those who are poor, would a world where we try to reduce poverty still be better or worse?
I personally never understood why we do not set up a global works program. Any hour of work performed additionally, increases the wealth of global society by one hour. Why does it make sense to have 1 billion unemployed people and thus massive poverty, when they could work and produce things we all need? At the end, it is all just a employment and distribution problem, is it not?
