Honestly if a town wants to take down a statue, let them. It's not for us to decide. If ever statue of Lee was taken down, it's not like he's erased from history, there are no statues of Hitler in any of our parks but I'm pretty sure 90% of American's know who Hitler was.
Most of the statues are being relocated, not destroyed anyway. If you want to see it, you still can.
Coming into a city and telling it's voters who pay the taxes there what they can an cannot do is exactly against what the confederacy was about anyway.

I think national monuments are a different issue. Would require a national referendum.
