Monarchies work wonderfully in the modern era. Even if they are completely powerless in a political sense.
Netherlands, Sweden and Norway retain a king or queen and it's not for the worse. And I don't even know how much tourist monies the UK gains from that old hag walking around.
It's just Central Europe which was robbed by this great tradition because the West played all their powergames on our backs.
