no, they lack the resources that are necessary for a nation to survive. maybe if they didn't lack water for crops, or a population that mostly has no idea how to make or harvest their own food (considering a lot of rural areas would probably refuse to aid in succession because farmers tend to get their supplies to grow crops from 'loyal' states). for them to fully succeed they'd need some of the states surrounding them in order to survive the inevitable sanctions and blockade that would follow the declaration. On top of this no nation would get involved, Russia knows that the west coast ideals don't agree with him, China will follow Russia and pretty much any other nation worth noting would be commuting suicide to get involved as the US is pretty much the big gun of their alliance so to try and get California to succeed in this endeavor will effectively make the US a dead weight in things like NATO and SEATO.

All their industry and farmers would leave and move Florida or Nevada since owning a business there would be useless. The whites that don't live in the major cities would also leave and move to a different state. All that would be left is entitled white commies that are too lazy to work, and illegal wetbacks. Between not being able to trade with other nations, no longer receiving water from surrounding states, and all the experienced farmers leaving they'd quickly run out of food. There would also be no more doctors, since they aren't going to spend all that time and money in college to become a doctor to work for free. No more police upholding the law. No more firemen. They would quickly turn into Venezuela. Eventually they'd be forced to come crawling back, and we would make them a stater again but greatly reduce their power and their electoral votes as punishment.
