Fires can not last for ever, some slowly fade away, others are suddenly put out with other means.
For america The logs were put into place during colonially times, and the match was lit and thrown during the war for independence. Then half the fire was put out during the civil war, but the fire regained its power, more logs were added during the WW1 and more during WW2. Logs were slowly placed on for each victory in the Cold war and many more after the soviet union collapse. Some were added after 9/11. but now all the logs are gone and someone is looming over the fire with a bucket of water.
