Foot may have slipped from the brake onto the gas, can happen if you're distracted or in a panic, typically your brain plants it to the floor until you realize what is happening. If you watch the video and listen, he turns the corner too fast and has old tires. They squeal, and since the car is used they likely weren't changed. Anyway, he slows down but this is a 4000lb car, not even top of the line model with good brakes. He rolls in to the few people and then gets hit by pissed people.
