If today's events are any indication, the political right and left in USAmerica are both broken tools in the hands of madmen.
Paul wrote that "we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places" almost two thousand years ago, and it remains true today.
If you wonder why every political movement that claims to promote human flourishing fails, it is because every movement which does not have Jesus at the top of its chain of command can only in the end cause death and suffering.
It's a cosmological problem of identity, not a question of pragmatism.
