3 times faster charge than Tesla. Better car, faster charging, more km per charge.

Europe is about to go all-electric, while Trump's America hangs on to the ugly gas and diesel cars.

Why do Americans hate e-cars so much?

This doesn't hurt Tesla the economies of scale will help them until a certain point. I.e. more people buying electric cars means more support for infrastructure to support them.

Even if Tesla fails, you forget Musk still has his fucking SPACE PROGRAM along with the Hyperloop.

Please, please I'm begging you, tell me that the guy who made online payments, electric cars and privatized space will fail with the Hyperloop, I'm begging you please.

For a German you really do make horrible comparisons.

Im all in favor of Porsche but comparing a model X with a 911 makes no sense at all.

Performance of the tesla models is on par with the turbo s versions so if anything you should compare the price of the top spec Model S with that of a Panamera Turbo S.

Electric cars literally do not need any fixing. Electric motors are incredibly simple and so is their connection to the batteries.

Trust me, I have been building model e-cars back in the 1990s like crazy and compared to gasoline model cars, they were WAY easier to handle.
>>
Do the batteries get shittier over time like in phones?
>>
>>137097923
Tesla basically obliterated the high end luxury market, so I'm not surprised that other companies are, finally, coming out with competitive electrics. If Tesla had never shown up, I guarantee you this porsche electric wouldn't exist.

Telsa doesn't have too much to worry about from competition with other car manufacturers though, since the company is also invested in batteries and solar. So long as Tesla keeps bringing prices on electrics down, keeps increasing production capacity, and keeps expanding their battery and solar production, they're in a good way.
>>

>>
>>137099735
>How are you going to make all that electricity?

E-cars don't actually need that much electricity. Also, we actually got a shitton of coal. Our coal power plants only run 50% on average - we could charge 10 million cars right now, just with the capacity we have from cheap coal.

No, Tesla doesn't do it, because they don't have working tech for real supercharging.

Porsche isn't kidding, they are going ahead with actually useable cars. I mean, who wants to wait 45 min for a Tesla supercharge from 20% to 80%? But 15min? An established manufacturer that's apart of VAG which is pretty much one of the largest car companies will have trouble with infrastructure for mass production of vehicles

Electrics are going to become cheaper than ICE

I'm sure you won't believe me, but you'll see it within 10 years and probably within 5. $10,000 new electric vs $30,000 new ICE.

Electrics have way, way, way, fewer parts. Simpler to design and build. Cheaper to maintain. There is no question about this - the technology itself is proven, electrics work. Now it's just a slow roll towards mass production and decreasing battery costs. Tesla's got their Model 3 out within a year or so, that'll be a few hairs over the price of a new ICE.

Whatever they bring to market after the Model 3 will probably fill in niches - truck, coupe, etc. Might just be Model 3 variants for all of that.

Then the model after the Model 3 will be their $15,000 - $25,000 car and that's when everyone who buys a new vehicle starts buying electric. It'll be like how, one year, nobody cared much for smartphones, and the next year everyone had an iphone.

I don't hate electric cars. They have a great amount of power and acceleration, the torque they produce is nuts, the only things which have been stopping most people from being early adopters are:

1. Charges not giving a great range or lasting very long. North America is a large place, and drivers here frequently cover more ground as part of a regular commute than drivers in European nations. We need vehicles which will get us somewhere and back without issue.

2. Charge time. I really do hope Porsche can deliver on the 15 minute charge claims, and improve upon it. For many people, going to a gas station is convenient because it only takes 5-10 minutes depending on what you're doing there. I can show up on empty with a range of <5 miles, and leave 8 minutes later with a car which can transport me 380 miles away.

3. Convenient access to fuel. There are not a lot of charging stations yet. I've seen a few popping up here and there, but compared to the availability of gasoline, there aren't many places to get a charge.

4. Battery wear and replacement. The batteries which fuel electric cars have been constantly improving, but there are still issues and limitations with/on battery life. Depth of charge, frequency of charges, high speed vs. low speed charge, all of these play a role in how quickly a battery cell goes bad. You will likely not have to replace a fuel tank or fuel pump in the lifetime of a gas powered vehicle, but you may for your electric car and it may be extremely expensive to replace.

5. Trucks and other work vehicles are still a long way away. Americans love trucks and SUVs. I can't explain it because I own neither, but people really really love them. Making a lightweight passenger sedan into an electric vehicle with a good enough range for people to buy into it has been enough of a challenge, making a heavy, sturdy work vehicle is an even greater one.

>>137101835
Yes, I have timed it, actually. It doesn't take long to fill a 10 gallon tank.

2. Bosch is a major company. If they pitch for a contract with deliveries next year, they have the tech.

For many in North America, they will not give a shit about electric until it comes to trucks and SUVs, but once it does - and it will, I believe if there are electric motors which can haul a heavy load over 350 miles and recharge almost as fast as you can fill a tank with gas, people should not have any reason to buy anything else. The torque from electric motors is excellent and should be a huge asset not just for trucks but for all terrain vehicles, off-roading, etc.

Most people think Americans hate electric technology for the sake of doing so or for the sake of saying "fuck the environment" but I've not really found that to be true. I think that most people are just siding with the type of vehicle which has the most upside at the moment. Tesla will continue improving, other car companies will decide to try and knock them down a peg, and the technology will hopefully continue to advance through competition to the point where we finally have some electric cars which are true replacements for gasoline powered vehicles rather than simply alternatives.

When the Tesla S wins against a Porsche on the Nordschleife, I am all ears. Until then, the Tesla is just another American plastic car for me - just like a Corvette or a Mustang (both of which have long lost their 1960s charme).

I will switch to an electric car when:
>it's affordable

>>
>>137100889
They're luxury cars and they do not save you any money. You buy them because you are rich and want an electric.

Electric pros:
Simpler and cheaper to build
Lower (negligible) maintenance costs
Instant torque
High acceleration
Sound cool as fuck but also quiet

Electric cons:
Battery has limited range (~200 - 500km) compared to fuel
Batteries are still very expensive (majority of the car cost comes from the battery)
Temperature can affect range
Some people prefer the loud rumble of explosions to the sci-fi chargeup whine of an electric

Electricianfag here.
>1. Our electrical infrastructure is shit
... and getting shittier, because it's a fucking huge job to fix it and everybody is greedy, but also in some places it's illegal to upgrade. It's part of the whole "early adopter" thing, we created electrical generation and distribution, so naturally our shit is the oldest in the world on average. Oh, the illegal to upgrade thing? In at least three states i've worked in, it is illegal for power distribution companies to replace existing wires, electrical posts, etc, unless they are already broken.
>2. We are all over the fucking place.
How far do you live from your employer germa-bro? how far do you have to travel to work on a daily basis? i'm willing to wager it isn't terribly far, because your cities are quite compact. An advantage of having a medieval civil planning process, you live within walking distance of *things*.
At my prior residence, if i needed to purchase *anything* at all, the nearest retail establishment of any sort was 11 miles from my front door. Just checked it on google maps to be 100% accurate. The retail establishment in question? a exxon gas station. Americans after WW2 went into suburbs, and the 80's led to 2nd ring suburbs which are functionally just houses out in agricultural areas. My current job requires that i periodically drive for over an hour at highway speeds to a location which has no electrical power.
>3. We are extremely reliant on a variety of vehicles, which are not available in electric as of yet.
I can't get a pickup truck with a 8' bed in electric yet. Can't get a 4 wheel drive jeep in electric either... imagine a refrigerated box truck running off batteries? It would go dead in a heartbeat.

Solar is going to make centralized power virtually obsolete for the masses. It'll matter for industry, but not your average person.

I already ran the numbers for my own home here in Canada - it would take 20 years to pay off at the current prices, and that's in an area that is rainy 8/10 days of the year, and assumes paying extra on battery storage + grid tie instead of grid tie only, and also assumes utility rates won't increase, which they will.

Since prices on solar is coming down dramatically, and battery prices are ALSO coming down dramatically (Tesla's Powerwall 2 is already double the kwh of the Powerwall 1 for the same price), pretty soon the largest cost of solar is going to be labor and certification (if you grid tie).

If it's close to grid parity and almost viable for me up here, it's already viable for people with the money down south. You're going to see a lot more solar in the next few years than you thought you would.

The problem is that laptop (and phone) manufacturers are retarded and don't put any priority towards long battery life. Else they'd be using better low-power hardware and more battery with better battery control software.

If you know where/what to look for, you can get laptops and phones with decent battery life, but you have to be looking for that explicitly.

Gasoline model cars can usually be fixed with anything provided you know your way around an engine and with a bit of imagination. Electric cars and hybrids may not break as often because they are more simple but when they do break (and not just a faulty connection), you need to change the whole unit. That's why they opted for 4 smaller engines connected to each wheel. Also, engine sound is like music to my ear, dismiss it as a subjective argument if you can't understand this.

>>137100256
>Warmers are powered by what?
If they are powered by electricity, good job on saving energy...
Reusing friction energy is not very efficient in itself enough to keep the battery bay warm: which is the whole floor btw, made in 18650 lithium cells stacked for fully electric cars.
>Higher speed transmission
Now this is bs, doing this would defeat the purpose of being energy efficient because of the higher output required to cells to spin the axis.
>Don't have engine, have motor sound
E-cars larping would be more cringy than civics desu
>you can fix anything

>e-cars will be as hackable as regular cars

>>137101460
You are right
>>137101564
Yeah, this would kill the sport so bad. I enjoy watching rally too and there was a full electric car not so long ago that ran finland. The current solar technology might not last long enough and may be difficult to produce, but it is constantly improving and has moved way beyond where it was a short while ago. It would be foolish to believe that it couldn't possibly get any better.

It will have a difficult time making progress in most places however without subsidies and things of that sort. You might say something like:

>Why do we need to artificially prop up this inferior source of energy?

Because it may never reach its true potential because the incumbent power sources have had well over 100 years to improve their methods and become more efficient. They are here, permeate every aspect of our societies and are powerful. They will do what they must to hold back a competitive technology so they can continue making money and owning the market. This includes fuel producers/refiners, as well as power generators. None of them want to see solar get better. They see to it that it cannot stand on its own. The game is already rigged against any competing power source.

Welfare payments as you put them create a market which would be snuffed out otherwise. Funding massive R&D projects to advance something like solar power is extremely expensive and will not progress quickly (as it hasn't) unless people adopt it. People won't adopt it when their local coal plant is cheap and easy. I've seen and heard many complaints about government subsidies for this technology in the past and I don't understand it. If we can improve solar technology to be cheap and viable it would be a very big deal for our nation and our allies. It would also help make the environment a bit cleaner which is objectively a positive whether your have a cause or not. I can see arguing against subsidies for lazy niggers on welfare, but I've never really understood wanting to obstruct a potentially fantastic technology.

I don't even understand how you could come to the conclusion that they wouldn't last as long as ICE. ICE is a maintenance nightmare.

The basic parts of an electric are simpler, and there's a lot fewer parts. The only thing that wouldn't last 25+ years is the battery - and honestly with 25 years of battery development involved you'd want to replace it anyways.

In a hundred years the only ICE in existence are going to be antiques marveled at the same way people view horse-drawn carriages today.

not to mention electrical infrastructure is not built to withstand this amount of "casual" power drain. Just a few cars charging as fast as this in an area can cause a massive power outage.

ICE is god-tier. The only way car manufacturers make unreliable cars now is if they purposefully make high-maintenance cars or use substandard materials.

Just look at Taxi fleets to see how long ICE cars can run with minimal service.

Also, the fuel economy on cars now is incredible thanks to direct fuel injection, 10 speed tranmissions, etc etc.
>>
>>137108715

You can cherry pick the worst plant or the cleanest plant. It's a null argument. I'd rather have the fossil fuels burned at a plant outside of a city than inside of it on the street.

Electric vehicle is a clear technology improvement along many independent variables like pollution, noise, efficiency, etc. The main problem is still battery tech.

>but I've never really understood wanting to obstruct a potentially fantastic technology.

They're idiots, manipulated by corporate propaganda to hate on the competition. Some of it is just intrinsic skub vs antiskub. Most of it is just useful idiot. When talking to these people you quickly realize that they're about as uninformed as they can possibly get, they're anti-informed. They outright ignore reality and fact like a typical liberal.

The complaints about Tesla getting "subsidies" ring hollow if you actually look at any other industry on the planet. They ALL get subsidies of some sort. If it's not directly, then it's indirectly. I've seen people claiming SpaceX is subsidized by the government because they sell launches to the government - well then what does that make ULA or Astrium? The government subsidizes internal combustion vehicles and the oil industry with multi-trillion-dollar wars in the middle east. Major oil companies get massive tax breaks and write-offs to encourage production and expansion. The US agricultural industry gets so many subsidies it's become massively politicized. The FDA is practically run by pharmaceuticals, and the FCC's chairman is bought off by the major US ISP's.

But no, don't look there. Focus on Tesla and how badwrongevil they are for taking government money - loans and actual payment for goods and services provided (how EVIL) - while providing the most competitive AMERICAN automotive and space industries we've seen in decades.

Boo hiss shut it down. We need to rely on middle eastern oil and offload more manufacturing to china, goyim.

Fucking retards.

They've planned it out pretty well.

Getting the tech working to start with was a challenge, and expensive, but they did it and sold a top of the line luxury car.

Since then, they've been increasing production capacity and reducing costs. Now they're selling a car that's half the price of the first one. In 5 years they'll be selling electrics for $20,000, maybe less. Once they breach that $15,000 - $20,000 mark, they've completely made it and EV's will dominate the automotive market forever after.

And this is why through all the electric memeing I havent figured out why the Volt hasn't been more popular or why Chevy hasn't also made a Volt SUV or crossover. Seriously, it solves the range issues for everyone, thr charge times, the efficiency, the electric drivetrain--it just makes the best of both worlds and crams em in to a car. I guarantee if they made it a crossover or compact SUV version sales of Volt vehicles would skyrocket.

As an engineer, flexible energy source vehicles like the Volt seem like the best idea in the world, where we could even adapt to fuel cells pretty seamlessly, but I can't get why this tech isnt being used everywhere.
