What exactly went wrong with Venezuela? Can somebody give me a quick rundown?

I am well aware socialism and corruption fucked it over hard but isn't 99% of latin America corrupt and socilistic as fuck? Why did it hit these boys so hard?
Also, how come they are doing so shitty when they allegedly have more oil than the mudslimes in the middle east? Why is Dubai flourishing while Venezuela becomes Zimbabwe 2.0. ? Shouldn't the US march in there and spread some (((freedom for oil)))? It seems like they could simply go in there and btfo all the spics in charge in order to obtain oil rather than having to deal with the pain in the ass that are the Arab states.
