Is it against any law to build your own atomic super weapon? To my knowledge there are no such national or international laws prohibiting this. The governments are probably hoping people think it is illegal so they won't even try to make one.

There are non-proliferation treaties and regulations for handling the materials needed.
A Swede was arrested for trying to build just a simple nuclear reactor in his kitchen a few years ago and got fined. He used the radioactive material from old fire alarms if I remember correctly.

You need a licence for the material, also have "appropriate" security and storage. and it's so expensive and cost prohibitive that only the mega-ultra rich could possibly do it. Why would ((((they)))) make a bomb?
